Lilacs always make me feel happy. They are such beautiful colors and the scent brings good feelings and memories. Today my thoughts were of lilacs and these lilacs needed a surrounding of yellow gold to bring out their beauty. Lilacs with Silver and Gold is 8 x 10" and is created with oil on a canvas panel.

More Oil and Cold Wax Medium
I'm attempting to think in general shapes rather than details. I still enjoy details and, as you can see from this piece, Floral Vista, the grassy floral shapes in the foreground have still captured my attention. Hopefully though you can still travel back through the scene easily and visit foreground, middle ground and distant mountain shapes. Floral Vista - 8 x 10 - oil and cold wax medium on panel.

Landscapes in Oil and Cold Wax
Two images of recent paintings done with oil and cold wax medium. Both are 10 x 8" on canvas panels. These are based on photos that I have taken in the Pacific Northwest. In Edge of the Woods I experimented with more layers of color -- adding more and then scraping back -- both done with a palette knife.
The second image is Venturing into the Light. The sunlight was filtering through the trees in the background and on to the sparking water of the stream.

Continuing the Oil and Cold Wax Series
I've forgotten to post day 2 here, so today will be day 2 and 3 of my cold wax and oil paintings. I'm trying different subject matter and different color palettes to test what works best for me. I am enjoying the process.

Oil with Cold Wax Medium
I am trying a new art path. I'm not sure how long I will stay on this path, but for the moment, I'm enjoying it. After spending time working on keeping details and likenesses as most important, I am now playing with color and texture. First attempt was 4 small images. I've included my favorite of the four images. I'm titling it "Red Vase". The oil paint is mixed with cold wax and applied to the surface with a palette knife in multiple layers.

Oil painting from a family photo. I cropped this image of my sister in her teens as I always thought she was so glamorous. She was about the same age as Shirley Temple and I think our mother must have copied some of the hairstyles of Shirley and other contemporaries. This is titled Carol Ann and is approx 8.5 x 11 inches on oil paper.

Something Different for Me
I decided to try an oil landscape. I love drawing/painting clouds and I had taken a sunset photo that I liked a lot. Although it doesn't quite capture the image of the photo, I think it captured the essence of the scene. This may be the first of a few landscape/cloudscape paintings. Still isolating, staying home, and painting. Today I worked on depicting transparency of glass. This is something that I've done a fair amount with colored pencils and now I'm trying to achieve a similar effect with oils. I'm calling this Study in Transparency and Texture. It is 12x16" and gave me a reason to pull out some of the pretty glassware and bottles in my collection.

A New Year - a New Still Life
Looking Forward - 8 x 10" - oil on panel
As 2021 begins we have much for which to be thankful and many opportunities to create a good and rewarding future. As the saying goes, "you can't change the past, but you can create the future" -- or something to that effect. I have plans to include more painting and more positive thinking in this year and others that follow.
