A Change of Creative Spirit

I have been straying from my sometimes straight and sometimes narrow path of artistic creation in the past few months and have been having a great time creating original bracelets.  I have been having such a good time that I have created a shop to sell my bracelets using the Etsy platform.

I have not given up painting and drawing, but have moved that aspect of creativity to the back burner for now.  I'd love to have you visit my shop at http://etsy.com/shop/DewarStudio. For those of you in the Seattle area I have several offerings using the Seahawks colors and charms.  I have more to add as soon as I get them photographed.

Pencils & Palettes at American Art Company

I have had the fortunate circumstance of belonging to an art critique group for quite a number of years.  This group is made up of a women artists most of whom I met through the Colored Pencil Society of America.   We are celebrating our 20th year together by sharing our artwork in a group show at the American Art Company at 1138 Broadway in Tacoma, WA.

I would love to have you come by to see our artwork in a show we are calling Pencils and Palettes.  Most of the work is colored pencil, but a few of us are showing mixed media or work in another medium.  I will have colored pencil work and a couple of oil on canvas works.
This is a lovely gallery in the downtown area of Tacoma and very convenient to the freeway.  The show runs from July 11 through September 5, 2015.  The reception, which is open to all, is on Saturday, July 18th from 2 to  4 pm.

Black and White + one • Special Exhibition - March 3 - May 29

Reflections and Refractions - colored pencil

I am happy to have my art included in an unique show at the Women Painters of Washington Gallery in Seattle. This show includes art from 36 members of the Women Painters group all in black and white.  Black and white is interpreted by the artist as to its meaning and intention.

My work is in colored pencil with the subjects interpreted with values of french gray, black and white -- a literal interpretation of the show title.  I have often used the french grays and black in my artwork and enjoy selecting and choosing the values that I feel best bring the subject matter into the three dimensional scene.

The show opens March 3 through May 29 and will feature an Opening Reception on First Thursday Artwalk, March 5th from 4 to 6 pm.

Colored Pencil Class with Cynthia Knox

To all my colored pencil friends and enthusiasts, I'd like to let you know about a new class in colored pencil, "Vivid Flowers in Colored Pencil," which is being taught by Cynthia Knox, a CPSA signature  member.  Cynthia has teamed with Craftsy.com to offer this 7 lesson class.  The Craftsy format invites student participation and questions and the lessons are easily revisited forever.  Until the class goes live, Cynthia is offering the class free to one lucky individual.  You can register for this drawing at http://www.craftsy.com/ext/CynthiaKnox_Giveaway
